Hi guys! We, vet students just had a Cereer Week. At first, I thought the Career Week was like some sort of motivation programmes. So I was like ‘What!?, We’ve just gone through Orientation Week and  we even will have Course Orientation.. and now this’  But after going through the first day of this programme, I was like ‘Wow! This is what I want’ and ‘Owhh, it’s all about career’, LOL it’s already stated there, a CAREER Week, to know about the path and choices that I can take/choose after my studies. This programme make myself clear about what I want to be after this 5 years.

Dr Eve Foong giving her speech (She wore green attire, looks like Steve Irwin)

From all the talks given, I can tell they are all enjoying their jobs. I’ve learnt that to be a veterinarian, having interest in animals is crucial. Yeaaa, that’s one of the reasons I chose this course, I have that kind of interest (but more to wild and all cute animals).

So, among all the speakers, from my view laa, the best speaker is Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohamed Shariff Mohamed Din, a fish/shrimp doctor. The way he talks and the contents given are really inspiring. The body language he made really caught my attention.. but still I’m not really interested in fish (huhu sorry Dr. Shariff), so my favourite speaker is Dr Eve Foong, a wildlife veterinarian at Sunway Lagoon. This is the kind of veterinarian that I want to be since I’m 12, I really enjoy watching National Geagraphic or anything that related to wildlife animals, to know what they do, what they eat, their behaviour and become so fascinated, seeing a lot more with strange figures and abilities.

In 2006, Dr Eve Foong become a part-timer at Sunway Lagoon and applied for the veterinary course in UPM in 2007. Later in 2008, she was accepted to study there and graduated in 2013 before working as a full-time veterinarian officer at Sunway Lagoon.

One of the factors that aid her being accepted is the work experience she had as a part-timer there. The peoples there really acknowledge her hardworks and the commitments she gave. One thing that I remember from her speech is ‘AGAK_AGAK’, a kind of words (or principle) she applied while doing her jobs.

Australian wildlife expert, Steve Irwin aka The Crocodile Hunter.

The main tasks of a wildlife vet (based on Dr Eve's) include the preventive medicine (need to know before the animals get sick), quarantining of newly imported animals, handling animal (or escapees like lion/tiger? OMG!!), and handling animal transfers between/within zoos.

What about challenges? - great diversity of animals (AGAK-AGAK applied), limited study on specific animals, limited record on animal health condition, finance (money restriction), inconsiderate customers (Dr Eve said 'just smile'), and common bites & scratches.

There's a lot more that we must learn from all the speakers. Their knowledge and experience are greater than us (students) since they've endure many challenges.

The end of programme.

I think that's all that I want to share. For Dr. Eve Foong, hopefully she will become a successful wildlife veterinarian. :) (actually she had become one, from my view). Peace yo!
